The Institute of Cost Accountants of India | How to Become Cost Accountant | ICWA Course Complete Details

Institute of Cost & Works Accountants of India (ICWAI) has changed it’s name into The Institute of Cost Accountants of India (ICAI). Also ICWA course has changed into CMA course. There is no difference between ICWAI and CMA. They are two different words used to describe one single thing. ICWAI stands for Institute of Cost and Work Accountant of India whereas CMA stands for Cost management accounting. Apart from the literal meaning there is no difference at all. There are 3 stages in ICWA course i.e., CMA Foundation, Inter and Final.

If you want to become Cost management accountant, you should complete these three stages. Students who have passed 10+2 are eligible for ICWA Foundation exam. The Institute of Cost Accountants of India conducts ICWAI Foundation exam four times in a year in the months of March, June, September and December. If you passed ICWA Foundation exam,  you are eligible for ICWAI Inter. If you have any graduation degree, you are exempt from ICWAI Foundation exam. You can directly enter into ICWAI Inter.

Provisional Admission/Registration Last Dates For ICWAI Foundation and Inter

(a) For joining Foundation Course

As per existing provisions a candidate can join CMA Foundation Course and offered provisional admission to the Course while pursuing 10+. However, the student shall be eligible to appear Foundation Course after qualifying 10+2 Examination. So, qualifying 10+2 examination makes the student eligible to get converted from Provisional to Regular status. The conversion is done on the basis of submission of application along with the Pass Certificate/ Mark Sheets (qualifying) for Class 10+2.

This provisional time period from his term of admission to the dote of conversion to regular student status is now extended upto 36(thirty six) months instead of 6(six) months.

(b) For joining Intermediate Course ( while pursuing their Under Graduate studies)

As per existing provisions a candidate can join CMA Intermediate Course would be offered provisional admission to the Course while pursuing their undergraduate courses/studies. The student shall be eligible to appear Intermediate Course only after qualifying Graduation Examination. So, qualifying Graduation examination makes the student eligible to get converted from Provisional to Regular status.

This provisional time period from his term of admission to the date of conversion to regular student status is now extended upto 18(eighteen) months instead of 6 (six) months.

However, students who would be joining Intermediate Course after qualifying CMA Foundation/CS Foundation/Intermediate by whatever name called qualified Examination of the Institute of Chartered Accountants of India, shall be considered as Regular Students and shall be eligible to appear in Intermediate Course Examination even during their pendency of undergraduate courses.

(a) A candidate should have passed Class 10 or equivalent from a recognized Board or Institution.

(b) Passed Senior Secondary Examination under 10+2 scheme of a recognized Board or an Examination recognized by the Central Government as equivalent thereto or has passed National Diploma in Commerce Examination held by the All India Council for Technical Education or any State Board of Technical Education under the authority of the said All India Council, or the Diploma in Rural Service Examination conducted by the National Council of Higher Education.

ICWAI Foundation Inter and Final Registration Online Procedure

Students admitted / registered / enrolled to Foundation / Intermediate / Final course at least 4 months prior to the month of Examination shall be eligible to appear in the Foundation / Intermediate / Final Examination.

Note:

2. Identification/ Registration Number will be generated only after completion of document verification and authentication from the Directorate of studies.

3. Study Material will be dispatched after generation of Identification/ Registration Number.

4. Applicants are advised to ensure proper compliance and documentation.

In case of inadequate documentation your application will not be processed further.

5. Incomplete applications will be available in the system for further completion for a period of 30 days from the date of original application. During this period, an applicant may complete the remaining procedures. The date of payment shall be considered to be the date of admission/registration/enrollment. Beyond 30 days, no previous information will be available in the system and an applicant shall have to proceed for making fresh application.

Moreover, life of an incomplete application would be a maximum of 30 days(T+30) and after period of 30 days, the application will be physically deleted from the database.

We can definitely complete our preparation in 2 ½ months very easily. In this 2 ½ months preparation you have to do 3 times of revision for CMA Inter December 2016 exams. How to utilize time during leave period

Get up early in the morning at 4 AM. Be ready by 5 AM. This period (4.00 AM to 6.00 AM) is called ‘Brahma Murat’ and studies done during this period cannot be forgotten i.e. they remain in memory for long.

5 AM. To 7.00 AM Read Theory
7 AM. to 7.30 AM. Breakfast Time
7.30 AM to 10.30 AM Read theory – mind is always fresh in the morning
10.30 AM to 11.00 AM Relaxation Time
11.00 AM to 1 PM. Do/solve practical problems.
1 PM to 2 PM Lunch Time
2 PM to 3 PM May take short sleep
3 PM to 5 PM Do/solve practical problems.
5 PM to 5.30 PM Have a break.
5.30 PM to 8 PM Read theory.

2st Revision

You have to complete your 2nd revision in next 15 days and once again you have to complete full revision of your study material which is you prepared in 1st revision. This time just remind subject from all your notes and material.

Note : preparation of ICAI’s Text book study material is must and should. So you should do this in 2nd revision.

3rd revision

No. of days = 15 days

In this 3rd revision there is no particular time table. Just concentrate on your weak areas of subjects. Once again revise all subjects which you are completed in last 2 months (1stand 2nd revisions). This time also prepare previous years papers, mock test papers, RTP’s and other model papers which are you have. In this time just rewind books which you are already known. Keep away from new chapters because if you concentrate on new topics you may forget already prepared topics.

CMA Inter Preparation Tips – June 2017

  • Prepare your CMA Inter Self prepared Notes
  • Prepare CMA Inter Latest Study Material
  • Prepare CMA Inter Revision Test Papers, Mock Test Papers and Practice Papers
  • Practice Accounting Problems daily
  • Select Reference Books and only prepare from those CMA Inter reference books
  • Understand the CMA Inter Exam pattern
  • Study the question papers of previous examinations to be able to categories all the topics in each subject and understand broad trends of these categories.
  • Based on above and marks allotted give weightage to each category and accordingly prepare for the examination, spending more time and effort for important topics However, do not overemphasis the trends. They may go wrong.
  • In the case of theory subjects, focus on understanding the concepts thoroughly and its application. In subjects such as law, give due regard to case laws and sections.In subjects such as Economics, spend some effort on statistics and general reading of business newspapers and news magazines.
  •  In the case of numerical subjects, such as accountancy, costing and mathematics, focus on understanding the methods, formulae and format of presenting the solution. Solve as many problems as you can. Prepare for these subjects from the beginning of the year/ session and on a continuous basis.
  • Practice use of your calculator effectively to maximise its efficiency in the examination Hall. Remember speed is a crucial requirement.
  • Self motivation is very important. motivate yourself and reward yourself.
